Choosing the Right Brayer
As an artist or printmaker, you are probably already familiar with the usefulness of brayers. For those who are unfamiliar with brayers, we should begin by explaining the variations in this useful tool. A brayer is actually a type of hand roller that is traditionally used in printmaking. There are several different materials used to make brayers: composition, rubber, sponge, acrylic, polyurethane or leather. Brayers not only vary in material, but they also vary in hardness. For example, rubber hand rollers have a wide variance in hardness, causing the user to experience very different results from tool to tool. People who are interested in arts and crafts, such as scrapbooking, may be in need of a sponge roller. Before purchasing a brayer, you will need to evaluate your needs in order to choose the right one.
